About Us

Netsafe is a respected not-for-profit organisation in New Zealand. We are recognised by New Zealanders, NZ Police, government, and social agencies for our expertise in supporting individuals facing online harm. With 25 years of experience, we provide online safety support, education, and various services as an independent charity governed by a board.

Our services include a free social media helpline, dispute resolution scheme, community presentations, online resources, campaigns, and an online learning system for schools. Under the Harmful Digital Communications Act (HDCA), we have the responsibility to support individuals suffering from online harm. This involves investigating reports of bullying, abuse, and harassment.

We place a strong emphasis on addressing personal harm and assisting individuals in resolving complaints with each other and the internet industry. While we work closely with the Police and Courts, it’s important to note that our role is distinct from that of an industry regulator. We also establish relationships with online content hosts and agencies to improve online safety outcomes.

With a dedicated team of 27 full-time staff, including an operational team available seven days a week, we strive to resolve the majority of incidents reported.

However, it’s worth mentioning that our efforts to support individuals experiencing online fraud and consumer crimes are currently unfunded. You can make a difference by becoming a partner or donating today.
